April 30th

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Well, the unthinkable happened yesterday.  My computer is no longer functioning.  I am not sure what happened.  Have been in the frenzy mode trying to find anyone who is capable of doing something with it.   Remember, normal things you have and do are always more difficult in the military.  Just the way it is.  No complaints here.  [...]

The sounds of the helicopters buzzing, haze in the distance, a moon that is barely a sliver.  Warm wind blowing.  That is my night as I sit outside and write.  Hard to imagine.  My #1 liking of Kuwait is the nights (don’t know if I have mentioned that before).  Problem is you have to know where [...]

Today there was no sun out.  Cloudy and overcast, no rain or course, but still warm.  When there is cloud cover, it certainly keeps the temperature down.
Delivered yet another soldier to Ali Al Salem Airport for a flight North.  It seems like there aren’t any day flights.  You can probably guess why.
The upcoming months will [...]

Well, due to internet problems I wasn’t able to add any new pictures today.  Oh, the beauty of technology.  The pictures aren’t earth shattering just to prepare you for the day they do get on here.
I heard it has been raining a lot back in Waupun.  That is one thing it rarely does around here.  [...]

Tootser, time got away from me tonight.  Sorry, no pictures again, but hey, I’m working on it.  A late arrival from our unit (a Lieutenant Colonel) came in and we had dinner at The Great Steak and Potato Company.  He needed to do some wash so I hooked him up with our washers and dryers.  The [...]

Over here, you had better know the road you are traveling on.  Every so often, they throw in speed bumps.  Remember now, this is a main thoroughfare, not 25 or 30 MPH zones.  Funny story:  The other night we are transporting a Lieutenant Colonel to the airport.  I was just a passenger, you must have 2 [...]

I received three packages today (Christmas in April) and a card.  When it rains it pours.  Two packages from Mrs. Y and her husband, a package from the WAHS Cafeteria, and a card from Wayne.  You guys are amazing.  Thanks for thinking of me.  Let’s see, I think I have enough things to hold me [...]

The temperature reads 81 degrees and it is 8:00 PM.  It doesn’t get any better.  My “boss” made a trip up north and guess what, mosquitos.  More water up there, I don’t think they would survive down here.  Yeah!
Saw my first Camel Spider, here it is, I took a picture of it! http://images.whatsthatbug.com/images/camel_spider_sandoval.jpg

MILITARY & CIVILIAN TIME DESIGNATIONS
Today’s post is compliments of my brother Dennis for getting the wheels turning on this topic. A lesson in time from A – Z (minus J or Juliet of course).
There are 25 integer World Time Zones from -12 through 0 (GMT) to +12. Each one is 15° of Longitude as measured [...]

An early morning weapons fire.  Not your typical shooting on the outdoor ranges, but something that is called EST (electronic support & training).  You enter a room with big screens and on them is targets to shoot at.  All this is done with weapons electronically.  It is just as if you were shooting outdoors, the [...]
